Post-analysis of Projects
Resources spent on trying to stay ahead of failures often turn out to be well spent.
Both experience and Murphy’s Law teach that last minute emergency actions will be needed no matter how well a project is handled. Important is to rapidly and forcefully identify the reasons for failure(s) and to identify workarounds. As a precaution, be well prepared by continuously run sidetrack actions such as:
- Monitor and learn from the system's actual behavior
- Competence base – increase the understanding of how systems function
- FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis) – identify possible failures before they occur
Such actions reduce the number of emergency actions, limit production disturbances and their severity, and create a freedom of action. They can also lead to the identification of device and yield improvements, as well as cost reductions, and are therefore also investments in future product generations (a pre-project action).
