Information in English

The following is some general info about the race. Please contact the organizers if you need more info.

The idea of this race was triggered by a need for a long training session as a preparation for tough ultras later on. It is only during such training sessions that one really can see how the mind copes with the strain. One thing lead to another and the plans converged rapidly.

The idea behind TEC is to offer an excellent opportunity to test the limits. The focus of the challenge is primarily aimed at strengthening the mental part and giving an opportunity for testing equipment. Therefore, it was decided to chose a course that neither stresses the muscles to the extreme nor the navigation skills. Instead we chose to have the aid station access further apart than normal, to let the race have an ingredient of self-support, and to let it take place at a time of the year when it is colder.

Welcome!

Distances 100, 75 and 50 miles, and also 50.29 km. The prime distance is 100 miles (160.9 km). The marathon distance, 50 km and 100 km will be marked with signs but no time will be recorded at these passages.
When April 10-11, 2010. The start is at 10:00 and the finish closes 30 hours later at 16:00 the day after. Contact the organizer if you participate in one of the shorter distances and would like a later start to get extra training on running in the dark.
Where Ensta Krog in the suburb Täby north of Stockholm. There are showers and a sauna at Ensta Krog. Ensta Krog is located 1200 meters north-east of the shopping mall Täby Centrum.
Maximum number of participants The race is limited to 75 starting participants. Unfortunately, there are always a few runners that have to drop out right before a race. To compensate for this, we will accept 95 registrations. We will have a waiting list thereafter with a maximum number of 25 runners. The number of runners might be increased later on depending on the number of volunteers.
Registration Note: The race is full. It filled already on Sept 15, just over a month after the registration opened. The waiting list is also full since Nov 12.
Divisions Male and female divisions, but no age divisions.
Changing distance You are allowed to change distance during the race. The registration fee will be the same for all distances. If you change distance during the race then you will be listed in the result list after those that did not change distance.
Dropping out of the race (DNF) If you drop out of the race you will be included in the results list as finishing the longest of the 75 miles, 50 miles, and 50 km distances that you have conquered.
Course The course is described under the heading "Banan". A summary is: The course consists of a 6.25 miles long loop that you repeat. The surface is mainly wide trails combines with forest trails (15%), dirt roads (10%) and some stretches of asphalt (20% of which it is possible to run on softer surface next to the asphalt on half of this). The forest trails have some roots and stones but apart from this the surface is not technical. Normal running shoes should be sufficient. There are some small hills but in general the course can be considered as fairly easy to run. The total elevation gain during the 100 miles is 1500 meters. The course should be fairly easy to navigate, and will be well marked during the race. A detailed description of the course will be posted on the website well before the race. The snow and ice should have disapeared at the time of the race, but in case spring is late be prepared for short patches of ice and snow. The course will be altered if the snow/ice conditions necessitates it.
Self suport The nature of the race is to give the runners a chance to prepare for tough races having aid stations that are far apart. The runners are therefore expected to take full responsibility for most of the energy and sports drinks that they need, and to carry a sufficient amount of energy with them during the race. Running a long race in temperatures that might be close to freezing requires extra careful planning regarding the energy intake. The average night time temperature in early April is 0°C. The risk of hypothermia should not be ignored.
Aid station The race has one aid station. It is located at the start/finish and will be passed roughly every 10 kilometers. The aid station will serve a standard menu consisting of water (warm and cold), chips, bananas, boiled potatoes with salt, and pasta when the night approaches. What each runner prefers to eat and drink during a very long race varies very much from person to person and the taste can also change significantly during the race. Combined with the nature of the race, this means that the race is based on that the runners themselves bring to the race what they want to eat in addition to the standard menu of the aid station. The runners will have access to their bags at the aid station.
Compulsary equipment Runners are expected to carry with them fluid, energy and a mobile phone. The amount and type of cloth should be appropriate for the weather conditions. During the night part of the race the runners are also expected to wear good reflector tags (preferably in the form of a reflector west) and light, as well as a simple spare light and spare batteries. A survival blanket is compulsary equipment after 50 miles.
Pacer Using a pacer is allowed after 100 km or after sunset, whichever comes first. Only one pacer is allowed at a time. It is not allowed for the pacer to carry anything for the runner. The pacer should report to the organizer before joining the runner since we need to know who is out on the trail.
Transportation The race is just over a kilometer from the shopping mall Täby Centrum. Several bus routes and the commuter train Roslagsbanan passes within a kilometer of the race.
Lodging The closest hotel is located 300 meter south of the race. Contact TEC for info about discounted price at this hotel. See also the upper section of this website's right column.
Pasta dinner If there is an interest there will be a pasta dinner the night before the race.
Weather A detailed weather forecast can be found at www.yr.no.
Sun/moon The sun sets at 19:52 and rises at 5:46. There will not be much help from the moon since it rises first at 04:41, and it will be new moon already on April 14.
Rules Cheating, littering, using help in the form of for example poles, or passing the railway in an unsafe way is not allowed. To help a fellow runner in need is mandatory. The organizer can disqualify a runner that violates these simple rules or that behaves in a unsportsmanlike way. Likewise, the behavor of the pacer can also lead to the disqualification of the runner. The organizer can also stop a runner if the medical condition of the runner motivates it.
Risk The participants participate at there own risk and responsibility.
